Nigeria to buy 12 attack helicopters from Russia after military deal

Russia is to sell 12 attack helicopters to Nigeria after both countries signed a military deal on the side-lines of the Russia-Africa summit holding in Sochi. Reuters, citing a report from Moscow-based news agency RIA, stated that the agreement was signed on Wednesday, October 24. Earlier, a presidential aide, Garba Shehu, had disclosed that President Buhari was to have discussions with President Vladimir Putin of Russia, part of which will concern arms procurement. Ahead of the Russia-Africa summit, Legit.ng had reported that the Russian Federation could help Nigeria battle Boko Haram terrorists if both countries sign a military-technical cooperation deal scheduled to take place on October 2019.

The Nigerian ambassador to Russia, Steve Ugbah, had told Russia's RIA news agency in an interview that President Buhari was due to meet President Putin on the side-lines of a Russia-Africa summit in the Black Sea city of Sochi.
